The K& M Performance Parts MR-1 Heads up class always features some of the highest horsepower per cube cars in the Pontiac world! This year a total of 9 cars tried to make the field. When it was all said and done, Elliott Pickett from Garnet Valley, PA took the #1 qualifying position with an 8.313 ET at 163.45 mph in his ’63 Tempest Wagon! This was a VERY impressive run and showed the Picketts were ready to lock horns with anyone in the class. Elliott posted both the best ET & top SPEED in the class. The #2 qualified car was Glenn Sedig from Sterling, IL in his ’69 Grand Prix with an 8.561 @ 156.46 mph.

When it was all said and done Glenn Sedig in his ‘ 69 Grand Prix took out Chris Shenuk in his ‘ 72 Firebird in the finals. Glenn ran an 8.604 ET at 156.95 mph to Shenuk’s 9.357 at 142.78 mph effort.
The Kauffman Racing Equipment Quick 16 qualifying was plagued with rain. It rained most of the day Saturday and there ended up being only 2 qualifying passes in total. Q1 started about 7 pm Saturday.
Elite 10 Member, Kevin Swaney took the #1 spot with a 7.143 ET at 190.30 mph in the KRE Quick 16. Swaney had both the best ET and top speed in the class. This was the 3rd year in a row that Swaney has taken the #1 spot in the KRE Quick 16. The top qualified door car was Frank Gostilla from Scottsdale, AZ (Top 10 NA Member) in his ’02 Grand Am. Frank put up a 7.659 ET at 177.63 mph on the full body side of the ladder. The 2014 KRE Quick 16 class was pretty quick again. It had 6 open body cars and 10 full body cars with the bump spot being an 8.462. Last years bump was in the 8.20s.

Todd Filson, the #2 qualifier, from Fairborn, Ohio took out Chris Estep from Benton, IL in the finals.. Todd ran a 7.688 ET at 160.86 mph to edge out Estep in the battle of the dragsters final.
Todd Filson is a Top 10 NA Member and he not only won the KRE Quick 16 he cashed in on the Tin Indian Performance / Kauffman Racing Equipment contingency money they offer at the event. Way to go Todd!
Another car we feel needs mentioned in these 2 classes is Steve Lockaby’s 1964 GTO. Steve made the trip to Norwalk from Lexington, KY and had his GTO qualified in the #4 position in the full body side of the ladder. Lockaby’s GTO ran an 8.204 ET at 164.81 mph. Make no mistake, Steve’s car is not only FAST it is VERY sharp as well. So much so, he won the Best Engineered Race Car at the 2014 event. Nicely done Steve!
